Mr. W and his interns registered the Korean delegates and American investors as they arrived, collecting business cards from each of the high-flying attendees. After the last guest checked in, one intern gathered the cards and placed them, fatefully, in a royal blue, Ritz Carlton-branded disposable coffee cup, firmly affixing the lid to its top. Though presumably done for purposes of safekeeping, this storage method soon proved neither "safe" nor "kept" in the slightest. The cup in question was left on the registration table, and, as hotel staff began cleaning up, it and its contents - not to mention the hundreds of millions of dollars worth of business opportunities they represented to Mr. W's company - disappeared.
