Our goal is to keep you and your family healthier and able to enjoy the everyday activities of life. You can see this vision at work within the pages of this magazine. This issue of Vim & Vigor focuses on ways we work together to bring that expertise beyond the walls of our hospitals out into the community. After the devastating earthquake in Haiti, a team of physicians and nurses traveled to Port au Prince to share their expertise and compassion, and help the people of our global neighborhood. Read on page 3 how they made a difference. Occupational Health Services of Community Healthcare System reaches out to companies and businesses to keep their workers on the job (page 4). It’s quality, convenient care that has made an impact on employee productivity. The physicians of our Care Network (page 6) are an extension of the same high quality services our patients find in our hospitals. This network serves as an important connection that makes our team more easily accessible closer to home. Take 5 for Life helps kids in the classrooms across Northwest Indiana get a healthier perspective on food and nutrition. Find out more about how this innovative program (page 8) is growing “green.” At the Stroke Center of Excellence, our specialists provide preventive education and rehab care through all phases of recovery so stroke patients can enjoy many years of wellness and productivity beyond their hospital bed (page 50). Our Chest Pain Center team collaborates with area dispatchers and EMTs (page 52) to help provide timely care to those experiencing chest pain in the early stages of a heart attack when every second counts. We’re also pleased to provide a more comprehensive approach to women’s care—care that is both innovative and integrative. Find out how lifestyle changes can give the body an opportunity to heal and rebalance (page 54). Ever mindful of the unique needs of the people within our region, we believe working together is good medicine for everyone. By joining forces and placing the latest technology in the hands of the most skilled professionals, the hospitals of Community Healthcare System offer you and your family more healthcare options than ever before.
