A large British study released in April 2010 confirms a connection between insufficient sleep and increased risk of stroke and heart attacks. The research tracked the sleep-health relationship of some 10,000 United Kingdom government workers for 17 years. Those who decreased their sleep from seven hours to five hours or less per night more than doubled their risk of cardiovascular death. Researchers reported that lack of sleep appeared to raise blood pressure, which is recognized as a risk factor for stroke and heart attacks. As a primary stroke center, St. Anthony Central Hospital is committed to helping prevent strokes as well as providing award-winning care when they do occur. Go to stanthonycentral.org/stroke for more information. If you’re not getting the sleep you need to stay healthy, you’ll also want to visit stanthonycentral.org/sleep to learn about the comprehensive services offered at our Sleep Disorders Center. And yes, there’s a “hot button” on iTriage for that, too. 3 http://www.stanthonycentral.org http://www.stanthonycentral.org/stroke http://www.stanthonycentral.org/sleep
