Good Times for a Go O Annual Cornerstone Society Gala recognizes the people who are helping transform healthcare in the community ver the past several years, Gwinnett Medical Center has been growing and transforming healthcare in its community at an astonishing rate. In 2006, the state-of-the-art, all-digital GMC–Duluth opened. In 2009, GMC–Lawrenceville opened its technologically advanced, eight-story patient tower. And earlier this year, the dream of open heart surgery close to home became a reality with the opening of the Strickland Heart Center. Soon after, GMC was listed by HealthGrades as one of the 100 Best Hospitals in America—the only hospital in the Atlanta area (including Sandy Springs and Marietta) to make this list. These advancements and more have radically transformed the landscape of healthcare in the northeastern Atlanta area. But they would not have been possible without the generous hearts of several families, individuals and businesses. These donors make up the esteemed Cornerstone Society, which was created to assist and support GMC’s mission to deliver innovative, superior-quality services to its community. To honor and celebrate this generous group, the GMC Foundation hosts the annual Cornerstone Society Donor Appreciation Gala. Started in 2009, the Gala has already become one of the premier events of its kind, having been awarded Best Charitable Event by Gwinnett Magazine readers for two consecutive years. More than 600 guests attended the fourth annual Gala in February. Chaired by Julia Davis and Clayton Davis, DMD, the black-tie event featured acclaimed speaker Frank Abagnale, subject of the book, movie and Broadway play Catch Me If You Can.
