Get Ripped F by Marie Forszt itness buffs and athletes have long used interval training—short bursts of intensive effort interspersed with more moderate stretches—to improve performance. As an added bonus, a recent study published in the Journal of Applied Physiology shows that this practice also improves cardiovascular fitness and helps the body burn more fat, even during low-intensity or moderate workouts. Community Hospital Fitness Pointe® in Munster is offering a new class called R.I.P.P.E.D. that is a totalbody, high-energy, intense workout. Anyone considering taking the class shouldn’t be intimidated by the sound of “high energy” or “intense”—it is perfect for all fitness levels, from beginners to trained athletes. The latest workout craze comes to Fitness Pointe “Our R.I.P.P.E.D. classes are being received with enthusiasm,” says Debi Pillarella, program director at Fitness Pointe. “Class participants really enjoy the intensity and variety of this class, but most of all they are getting great results in a shorter amount of time.” This total-body, high-intensity style program uses free weights, resistance and body weight, combined with the components of R.I.P.P.E.D.—Resistance, Intervals, Power, Plyometrics and Endurance during the workout portion, and Diet suggestions—to get maximum results. Better results, less time “R.I.P.P.E.D. – The One Stop Body Shock™ uses a ‘plateau-proof fitness formula’ that helps participants achieve ultimate results in a minimal amount of time,” says Pillarella. Workout elements and how they are organized within each R.I.P.P.E.D. class—changing focus and activities every six to nine minutes—makes for a unique body response. Your body never gets accustomed to the constant changing format, making it “plateau proof,” Pillarella says. This constant change in class format enables regular R.I.P.P.E.D. participants to achieve maximum results in a minimal time, some burning 750 to 1,000 calories in just 50 minutes. The deliberate combination of R.I.P.P.E.D. elements and how they are precisely organized in the R.I.P.P.E.D. class provide the basis for the One Stop Body Shock system. It stimulates different energy systems and muscles in each workout segment. Motivating music also helps to keep participants moving through each session. R.I.P.P.E.D. is effective and challenges all fitness and endurance levels. CAll R.I.P.P.E.D. provides a full-body workout and fitness regimen at Community Hospital Fitness Pointe in Munster. Program participants include (left to right, front) Grant Burdeua, Karen Porter, Jessica Greichunos, Lilia Cronin, (second row) Fernando Medina, Mitzi Montgomery, Cindy Harmon, (back row) Nikki Sarkisian and Annette Bowman. Fitness Pointe offers a number of R.I.P.P.E.D. classes for members as well as nonmembers. Members can enjoy this class for free, and nonmembers can purchase a Class Pass ($90 for 12 classes).
