CatCh the Spirit Ordinary Women, Extraordinary Actions Spirit of Women honors local women with awards N orth Mississippi Medical Center recently announced its regional Spirit of Women Award recipients, honoring women who do exceptional things. Regional winners are Addy Maxcy, Young Person Role Model; Keri McMillin, Community Hero; and Rhodemarie Maron, D.O., and Elise McMasters, Healthcare Heroes. Maxcy, a recent graduate of Tupelo High School, is a cheerleader who spent much of her senior year rooting for a group of special needs students. Maxcy got a Wii donated for adaptive physical education for their class and worked with the students’ teachers, parents and other members of the community to make arrangements for the students to attend the prom. McMillin has been actively involved in the community for many years, serving as a Community Development Foundation Ambassador, March of Dimes board member and Shannon Junior Women’s Club president, among other volunteer efforts. She recently created a nonprofit organization, Mission Motherhood, to help families who have experienced the loss of a stillborn child or the birth of a very premature baby. She is also leading an effort to build a facility that will house families whose infants are being cared for in NMMC’s neonatal intensive care unit. Addy Maxcy Keri McMillin Rhodemarie Maron, D.O. Stay Connected with Spirit of Women Maron, a local neurologist, and McMasters, her assistant, go above and beyond on a regular basis for their patients and the community. This “dynamic duo” started the Hope Steps Forward 5K and Fun Run to raise community awareness and funds to support brain tumor patients.
