where LAsting Weight Loss begins Center for Surgical Weight Management makes the transformation as convenient as possible A t the new home for the nationally accredited Center for Surgical Weight Management at Gwinnett Medical Center–Duluth, people can now find a wealth of healthy living resources in one convenient location. In early fall 2012, GMC opened the newly renovated, 12,000-square-foot facility on the Glancy Campus. The newly renovated location includes several features emphasizing patient care and convenience, such as the Eating Well demonstration kitchen, expanded clothing closet, on-site massage suite, comfortable exam rooms and larger classrooms. At Your ConvenienCe “The journey of surgical weight loss should be as seamless as possible for patients,” says Robert Richard, M.D., medical director and lead surgeon at the Center for Surgical Weight Management (CSWM). “Since our new location is housed near our certified dietitians and our accredited sleep lab, we can offer patients convenience through accessibility.” Besides having multiple services in one location, the new center, made possible through a generous donation from Jim and Billie Ellis of Duluth, was constructed and furnished to provide bariatric patients the utmost in comfort. “The clinic space provides exceptional access and safety for bariatric patients, including comfortable seating and larger doorways,” says Debra Proulx, the center’s manager. “It’s totally devoted to bariatrics and designed to be obstacle-free.” An environment of Support The newly renovated Center for Surgical Weight Management was made possible by a donation from Jim and Billie Ellis (center). 4 Spring 2 013 Having proper-fitting clothes can be challenging during the rapid weight loss that occurs after surgery.
