familiar with a hot flash—a sensation of heat,
along with a red, flushed face or sometimes a
soaking sweat. For about 25 percent of women,
hot flashes interfere with sleep and home and work life.
Fortunately, women can find relief. We turned to menopause
expert JoAnn Pinkerton, MD, director of UVA Midlife Health
and past president of the North American Menopause Society.
