While stress can shut down your short-term appetite, over the long term, your body's stress hormone, cortisol, increases appetite- and your motivation to eat. The American Psychological Association says that 25% of Americans surveyed reported eating as a way to manage stress. Insomnia. You know the signs of stress. And the American Psychological Association has a few to add to the list: high blood pressure, anxiety, depression and obesity.
