OUT OF THE WHITE COAT Psychology and Philanthropy Concussion specialist believes in athletics and activism M arla Shapiro, PhD, is a licensed psychologist, a nationally certiﬁed school psychologist and a credentialed ImPACT consultant specializing in developmental neuropsychology, school psychology and concussion management. She currently serves as chief neuropsychologist for the Concussion Institute at Gwinnett Medical Center-Duluth, the ﬁrst center of its kind in the Southeast that provides comprehensive concussion care and management-under one roof. Dr. Shapiro has been a licensed psychologist since 1997 and is a founding member of the Sports Neuropsychology Society-and one of only two current members in Georgia. She comes to the Concussion Institute with more than 20 years of experience working with athletes and individuals of all ages who have traumatic brain injuries and other neurological, behavioral and developmental disorders. Originally from Charlotte, N.C., Dr. Shapiro completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia. When she's not working, she spends time with family and is an active supporter of cancer-related causes in Georgia and Maryland.
