You fall and scrape your knee.

For the healthy human body, tissue repairs begin
before you can say "Band-Aid."
Blood vessels around the wound tighten to reduce
blood flow. Sticky blood cells called platelets begin
clumping to plug the torn blood vessel. Clotting proteins form a fibrin net to hold that plug-the start of
a protective scab-in place. Collagen is produced, and
skin around the wound thickens, growing under the
scab to complete the job.
Unfortunately, some bodies can't support this complex process because of circulatory problems, infection or other complications. Wounds slow to heal, or
failing to heal, can lead to limbs and lives being lost.
