(215) 321-9662 FROM THE CED’S DESK The Official Publication of CAI New England Good, Better, Best ublished by ASAE and The Center for Association Leadership, “7 Measures of Success, What Remarkable Associations Do That Other’s Don’t,” offered insight into the habits and practices of successful notfor-profit, member associations like CAI New England. Reflecting on these seven measures, it is clear why the chapter continues to thrive and grow in an ever challenging economy and often demanding industry. Commitment to Purpose including 1. A Customer Service Culture, and 2. Alignment of Products and Services with Mission. These goals are always first and foremost for CAI-NE volunteer leaders. Evident in the development and regular update of the chapter’s strategic plan and the board’s focus in achieving outlined goals and objectives year to year. Commitment to Analysis and Feedback with 3. Data-Driven Strategies, 4. Dialogue and Engagement, and 5. CEO as a Broker of Ideas. All of thee strategies are ongoing at the chapter and help to foster new ideas that continue to meet the ever changing needs of New England associations and professionals. From the development of social media, web and other communication strategies that fit the expressed interest of members, to evolving as well as newly established committees and networking groups like the Emerging Leaders Network (ELN), specific communication, education and networking needs of members are addressed. And lastly, the ongoing search for successful programs developed and shared by other like organizations including other CAI chapters around the country, provides the opportunity to learn from the experience of others and bring proven programs to members and readers. Commitment to Action focusing on 6. Organizational Adaptability, and 7. Alliance Building is clearly evidenced in the chapter’s ever-evolving committee and volunteer structure, as well as volunteer and staff accountability and commitment to working with other CAI chapters and organizations in achieving the chapter’s strategic goals. And so it is with an eye toward the future that I gratefully anticipate the opportunity to continue to work with 2013 Chapter President Pete Garrett and a new leadership team, as well as the hundreds of chapter volunteers around New England as they move the chapter again from good to better to best and beyond. Wishing you all a Happy New Year!
