Frank Lombardi, Esq. The More Things Change T he CAI National Conference and Expo held in Orlando, Fla., in May was the 20th national meeting I have attended as the chapter's executive director. I saw many faces from the New England chapter over the course of the three-day event, and with Chapter President-Elect Janet Aronson, we participated in the annual Chapter Executive Director and President-Elect Training sessions. While much has changed, even more has stayed the same. Over the past several years, I have seen the industry evolve with increasingly more challenges confronting communities and professional managers. From state legislation and agency oversight to aging buildings and financials shortfalls, the issues have changed considerably over the years as have how associations address these challenges. Changes in technology, improvements in products, as well as more highly trained industry professionals are helping communities address the issues of today and prepare for those of tomorrow. But at the core of the industry and CAI, as seen through my two decades of participation, are the same ideals - to foster strong, vibrant communities; the same spirit of volunteerism; and the same commitment of many familiar faces around New England and throughout the country. It is that foundation that has supported the chapter in its growth and success - addressing and conquering every new challenge and setting and achieving every new goal. So while we manage the changes and embrace the future, be thankful for the sameness and appreciate its contribution. Wishing you all a safe and sunny Independence Day celebration and restful summer.
