SUMMARY OF THE MAJOR PROVISIONS OF FAA 14 CFR, PART 107 KEY OPERATIONAL LIMITATIONS FOR DRONES: ■ Unmanned aircraft must weigh less than 55 lbs. ■ The unmanned aircraft must remain within visual line of sight of the remote pilot in command ■ Small unmanned aircraft may not operate over any persons not directly participating in the operation, not under a covered structure, and not inside a covered stationary vehicle ■ Daylight-only operations ■ Must yield right of way to other aircraft ■ Maximum groundspeed of 100 mph ■ Maximum altitude of 400 ft. ■ No operations from a moving vehicle ■ Requires preflight inspection by the remote pilot in command REMOTE PILOT IN COMMAND* CERTIFICATION AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ■ A person operating a small UAS must hold a remote pilot airman certificate with a small UAS rating ■ A remote pilot must pass an initial aeronautical knowledge test at an FAA approved knowledge testing center ■ A remote pilot must be vetted by the Transportation Security Administration ■ A remote pilot must be at least 16 years old ■ A remote pilot must make available to the FAA, upon request, the small UAS for inspection or testing ■ A remote pilot must conduct a preflight inspection, to include specific aircraft and control station systems checks, to ensure the small UAS is in a condition for safe operation ■ A remote pilot must ensure that the small unmanned aircraft complies with the existing registration requirements specified *Note: "Pilot in Command" is the term used by the FAA to define the person who is actively controlling the drone from a remote control station November 2016 21
