BY DOUG FLEISCHER CONTROL SUMMER PESTS WITH MODIFICATION AND TREATMENT A s the weather begins to warm and we emerge from winter hibernation, it becomes ever important, from a pest management perspective, that we shift our focus to include pest threats in the great outdoors. Many pest management strategies overlook a protocol to protect our outdoor spaces from nuisance and vector pests; the topic here will be mosquitoes and ticks. Coming off the tail of two historically mild winters, we should not expect normal population declines for overwintering pests like mosquitoes and ticks. Simply put, it just did not get cold enough for long enough, and as a result, these pests are emerging earlier and in greater numbers throughout New England and beyond. June 2017 43
