three new coaches last year and Bizzaro’s wife, Wendy, an interior designer, helped design the interiors. Knowing people would be on the motorcoaches for many hours over the course of several days, Bizzaro understood the importance of making these mobile environments comfortable and contemporary. “We made our coaches look better. We made them soothing colors, and we added amenities like Wi-Fi, electrical outlets, and galleys, and we presented them as different.” Overall, Lewis Stages has 36 tour coaches and 30 transit-style and mini buses. Another significant business strategy for Lewis Stages is identifying potential travel trends. His instincts in following general trends have served him well. As a Baby Boomer himself, his career path has run parallel with some of his generation’s cultural interests including working in the fashion industry in the 1970s; the fitness and nutrition industry in the 80s; and here he is today, again following an important trend of his generation— leisure travel. In looking at future travel trends, Bizzaro sees a major international inbound touring trend coming from Europe, Australia, and Asia. Specifically, China is where he is focusing his energies on. “The [Chinese] government has announced there will be 500,000 visas that will be issued each year and the gateways for these travelers are Los Angeles, San Francisco, Phoenix, and Las Vegas.” Accordingly, Bizzaro has developed a relationship with his tour partners to run tours out of those western cities where a possible influx of Chinese tourists will flock in the coming years. He also notes the advantageous exchange rate between foreign currencies and the U.S. dollar, which will allow these travelers to spend more economically here in the states versus staying home. In addition to foreign tourists’ interests in cities, Bizzaro sees the future in tours geared toward visiting U.S. national parks. Lewis Stages offers tours to the national parks and monuments

of southern Utah, including Bryce Canyon, Canyon Lands National Park, and Zion National Park. There has been some recent publicity associated with national parks—think Ken Burns' recent documentary on the topic—and Bizzaro sees the natural beauty of the

U.S. as a golden opportunity to serve both U.S. and foreign tourists. This is the future of the business as he sees it, and Bizzaro believes he is positioned for success. “This is a growth industry, and I think I’m in the right place.” —John Parkinson
