GovERNMENT AFFAiRS aftermarket Legislative Summit drives the industry Messages in washington, d.c. Aftermarket professionals A legislative briefing session was held on Wednesday, March 14, which began with issue presentations by AAIA staff and industry experts. The session concluded with an in-depth discussion on politics by a panel with Dana Perino, former White House Press Secretary under George W. Bush, and Terry McAuliffe, former Democratic National Committee chairman. Following the briefing session, participants attended a reception in the Rayburn House Building. Martin Truex, Jr., NASCAR Cup Series Driver for Michael Waltrip Racing, courtesy of NAPA AUTO PARTS, was on-hand for photos and autographs. On Thursday, March 15, attendees returned to Capitol Hill for meetings with their elected officials. In total, the aftermarket delegation presented issues to over 80 congressional offices from 24 states. The main focus of the event was for AAIA members to discuss important aftermarket-related issues, including Right to Repair, the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, with their elected officials in prescheduled meetings on Capitol Hill. roberto anguizola, fTc, spoke on his agency’s enforcement of the Magnuson-Moss warranty act during the opening briefing. geoff burr, vice president of government affairs at associate builders and contractors, inc., briefed attendees about the initiatives of the coalition for a democratic workplace (cdw). aaia members networked with their elected officials and legislative staffers during the opening night reception at the rayburn house Office building. aaia members from 24 states participated in the 2012 summit. dana Perino, kathleen Schmatz and Terry Mcauliffe engaged in a lively political discussion during the briefing.
