T E C H N o l o g y U P D AT E the fUtUre iS now at aapex The Wireless, Connected Shop of Tomorrow is Here Today SHOP TOMORROW At AAPEx in Las Vegas, Nov. 3-5, AAIA will produce a demonstration of wireless, remote vehicle diagnostics and interoperable shop equipment and systems. The Shop of Tomorrow will demonstrate that game-changing technology is available today. The major objective is to demonstrate that the aftermarket can produce products that compete with telematics services available from the OE car manufacturers. And, the Shop of Tomorrow will showcase the improved, paperless work flow possible in a modern service shop with systems and service equipment that include the i•SHOP standard. AAIA has earned a reputation for leadership in developing technology standards that benefit the parts and service aftermarket. The Shop of Tomorrow will offer a live demonstration of how shop operations are improved when the systems and equipment in the front shop and back shop can communicate using Web services and industry standards such as i•SHOP. Systems from Garage Operator and ALLDATA will demonstrate communication with an aligner from Hunter Engineering. The reduced data entry steps and improved service process are made possible by i•SHOP. Finally, the shop will order a hard-to-find part in a single process made possible by the Internet Parts Ordering (IPO) standard as implemented by WHI Solutions. The Shop of Tomorrow will also focus on an area of great concern to many in the aftermarket – OE telematics and vehicle communication technologies. AAIA will demonstrate that using wireless technology shops can communicate with vehicles as they go down the road. Vehicle health reports and remote engine diagnostics are possible and will be demonstrated by using a “black box” from Drew Technologies installed on a Smart fortwo micro-compact. The Shop of Tomorrow will demonstrate that the original car manufacturers aren’t the only ones who can communicate with customers and their vehicles on the road. The Shop of Tomorrow will be an informative venue designed to inspire anyone with an interest in keeping the aftermarket service channel relevant and competitive in an age of wireless communication. Those who should attend include program distribution groups and service national accounts, shop equipment and system providers, e-commerce and technology vendors and, of course, visionary shop operators. Demonstrations will take place throughout each day of the show in booth #2866.
