atHletICs Siaggas Selected as Supreme Athletic Director In December, the AHEPA Supreme Lodge selected Spiros Siaggas as Supreme Athletic Director, filling the void left with the passing of Dr. Monthe N. Kofos in September. Brother Siaggas, a longtime member of Mother Lodge Chapter 1, Atlanta, becomes the tenth athletic director since the formation of the athletic department at the 13th Supreme Convention in 1935. Spiros Siaggas Supreme Athletic Director “My 35 years working with Dr. Kofos as his deputy director provides me with the experience and vision to sustain the athletic department as one of the most respected programs within AHEPA,” said Siaggas. “This will provide a smooth transition as we move forward.” Dr. Kofos served as Supreme Athletic Director for 40 years. Successful Golf Tourneys Held in S.C., Florida, Denver The Mid-Southern National Golf Tournament held in Columbia, S.C. attracted 52 golfers, including a couple from as far away as Boston. George Tasioudes shot an 81 to land First Place (Gross) honors. Jimmy Beleos finished second with an 88. Vereen Davis grabbed First Place (Net), shooting a 90, net 72. John Psomas placed second, shooting 97, net 73. However, the real winners were seven students who each received $1,000 in a scholarship grant. The proceeds for the grants came from the golf tournament, which raised $7,000 for the effort. Next year’s tournament will be held the weekend of Oct. 11 and 12. Epiphany Golf Tournament Attracts Solid Competition Citrus District 2 hosted 54 golfers that provided exciting competition in the popular team scramble format as part of Epiphany celebrations, Jan. 1-4, 2009, in Tarpon Springs. First Place went to the team of: John Galaris, Sean Galaris, Peter Kooskalis, and Neil Katz, which shot a (-13). Second Place: Gus Pantelides, Alex Karos, Roy Gaddey, and Mike Song (-11). A good time was had by the participants of the Mid-Southern Regional Golf Tournament, Columbia, S.C. 34 the ahepan Winter 2009
