atHletICs capture the Doubles Event, tallying 1,596 total pin fall. Karas outpaced John Hock, of Joliet Chapter 131, to win the Best 4 of 6 Event, 1,212 to 1,151. Finally, Karas was the All Events champion collecting a total pin fall of 2,377, distancing himself from second place finisher Dan Kostopoulos, who tallied 2,273, by more than 100 total pins. The 2009 National Bowling Tournament is scheduled for April 25 and 26 at Olympia Lanes in Hammond, Ind. This year, the tournament will be held May 1-3, in New Rochelle, N.Y., at two sites, Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church and Tuckahoe High School gymnasiums. For more information, contact Costa Papademetriou, AHEPA National Basketball Director, Sons Chapter to Host In 60th Year, Van East Coast Basketball Nomikos National Hoops Tournament Tourney Truly Becomes International With teams expected to participate from across the U.S., Canada, and Greece, the 60th Annual “Van Nomikos” National AHEPA Invitational Basketball Tournament has developed an international flair. Teams are expected to participate from: Denver, Toronto, Alpha Bank (Greece), Lynn, Mass.; Brooklyn, New Jersey, Manhattan, New Rochelle, N.Y.; Bridgeport, Conn.; Washington, DC; Whitestone, N.Y., and Marlboro, Mass. Over the weekend of May 8-10, 2009, the Wyckoff, N.J. Sons of Pericles Patritha Chapter 317 will host its Fourth Annual East Coast Basketball Tournament at the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Wyckoff. As in years past, the Friday night event will be held in New Jersey, while the Saturday night event will be held across the river in Astoria, New York. The tournament has drawn many teams from around New Jersey as well as teams as far south as North Carolina and Virginia and as far north as Connecticut and Massachusetts. Proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the Sons of Pericles National Project, the AHEPA Cooley’s Anemia Foundation.
