AHEPA Journey to Greece Program Successfully Completes Fifth Season 63 Universities Have Accepted Students’ Credits since Program’s Inception he AHEPA Journey to Greece Program, in cooperation with the University of Indianapolis-Athens Campus, completed its fifth season with a total of 56 students participating over its two sessions. The Journey offers students the opportunity to earn up to nine transferable college credits by studying courses in ancient and modern Greece, among others. “We are thrilled with the development of the Journey since it was re-launched in 2005,” Supreme President Nicholas Karacostas said. “This year, we had a dynamic group of students who were afforded a once-in-a-lifetime experience to learn about Greece and to earn college credit all while making friendships that will last a lifetime.” He added, “I also commend the AHEPA chapters and districts that have established scholarships to provide financial support to the families of the students which T have enabled them to participate.” According to Journey to Greece Program Director Dr. James F. Dimitriou, a past supreme president, the Program has developed a solid foundation over the past five years, especially with the help of the University of Indianapolis, Athens, leading to the Program’s growth and success. With five seasons concluded, the Journey has 337 alumni, representing 63 universities from 26 states and Canada. In sum, those universities have accepted credits from the AHEPA Journey to Greece Program, according to Dr. Dimitriou. “The AHEPA Journey to Greece Program has continued the tradition of providing a vigorous educational program amid the cultural beauty of Greece,” said Dr. Dimitriou. “We are grateful to the sponsors that have contributed to the Program, allowing it to expand the opportunities for our students while helping to keep the costs down.” Ted Laliotis (far right), representing the National Hellenic Society (NHS), greets the Journey students before they depart for a cruise on “The Calypso.” NHS sponsored the cruise. 10 the ahepan Fall 2010
