mailBag Dear Mr. Karacostas: I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank you and the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association for your generous donation to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department’s Urban Search and Rescue Team, Virginia Task Force One (VATF1). Our recent mission to assist the people and government of Haiti after the devastating effects of the earthquake that struck the beleaguered island was particularly successful not only for the number of lives that VATF1 was able to save in the wreckage, but also for the humanitarian assistance they were able to provide while they were there. The Fire and Rescue Department is committed to providing the highest quality services to protect the lives, property, and environment of our community, and it is proud that its Urban Search and Rescue Team is able to extend this dedication to public service throughout the world. Your gift to the team helps to continue this service in the best manner possible and helps to purchase new search and rescue tools and equipment. You are truly making a difference in saving lives. Please know how much you have helped the Urban Search and Rescue Team, VATF1, and how much all of us appreciate it. Sincerely, Chief Ronald L. Mastin Fire and Rescue Department Dear Brother Karacostas: I enjoyed the article in The Ahepan entitled “Finally the road to policy success” (Winter/ Spring 2010) by your executive director. It does a good job of outlining the progress that has been made. You and your predecessor should be congratulated on the tireless work that you undertook to finally get Greece’s VWP across the goal line. I sincerely appreciate the Paul E. Tsongas Award that you recently bestowed upon me. I had a great deal of respect for Senator Tsongas and it is nice to be thought of as in the same category by my brothers in AHEPA. I look forward to continuing to work with you as we move forward. Your Brother, George V.
