The SOP is achieving this goal. The Supreme Lodge, with the help of our National Advisor, Chris Economides (Mr. E.), made a concerted effort to reach out to all AHEPA District Governors. We wanted to introduce ourselves, telling them what we had been up to and what we were planning for the upcoming year. We also asked the district governors to help put us in touch with young men in their respective districts so that we could spread the good word of the Sons of Pericles and all we have to offer. This grassroots effort proved fruitful. Through springtime, we initiated seven new chapters in Houston, Atlanta, Omaha, Neb., St. Clair Shores, Mich., Westfield, N.J., Piscataway N.J. and Toronto, Ont. Looking forward, we anticipate new chapters to be chartered in Chandler, Ariz., Fayetteville, N.C., Bridgeport, Conn., and Randolph, N.J., with several more on the horizon. Dean Tselepis This is a great start, but we need more and the Sons cannot do this by ourselves. We challenge each of you reading this to think about the young men you know who could help strengthen the AHEPA family and specifically the Sons of Pericles. Put these men in touch with the Supreme Lodge by emailing Proud to be a Son! Overseas Excursion Provides a Vivid Experience By Maids of Athena Grand President Sia Zois The warm weather can only mean one thing for us—convention season! The Maids of Athena Grand Lodge will be traveling to several District Conventions this year to host workshops and meetings to enlighten our members. Soon after, we look forward to having another large delegation from across the continent join us in Montreal. The Grand Lodge isn’t the only entity traveling this spring. There is also Flat Athena. Flat Athena is similar to the Flat Stanley program that you may recognize from any elementary school children in your family. Flat Athena has traveled chapter to chapter attending dances, meetings, baby showers, fashion shows and visitations. The Grand Lodge even caught up with her at our visit to Penelope House. Her final destination is Montreal where she will have her notebook full of memories and photographs. Please come take a look and be proud of the fabulous work your Maids of Athena has done! Flat Athena was so busy traveling that I couldn’t steal her away to make the trek with me on the AHEPA Family Excursion to Constantinople, Cyprus and Greece. I was honored to represent the Maids of Athena as we met with various political and religious leaders. I will truly cherish the memory of celebrating the Resurrection Service with His All Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. The gravity Sia Zois of the Cyprus issue finally became apparent to me when I saw Nicosia divided by a wall. From meeting the Prefect of Thessaloniki to the US Ambassador to Greece, as a young Greek American woman the experience was one that I will never forget. As our year comes to end, I remind you to look for our National Yearbook at the Supreme Convention. It will showcase all the great work our members and the lodge has done this year. I urge you to bring any niece, daughter and granddaughter to Montreal this summer and let her see what Maids of Athena can offer. I know she will be enchanted by the opportunities. There is a bright future ahead for our organization and your support will only make it better. 6 the ahepan Summer 2010
