March Madness: Hellenic Style Greek Independence Day Celebrations, Capitol Hill Day Make for March Frenzy by executive director basil n. mossaidis the basketball courts and the bevy of collegiate tournaments hosted across the country. For Greek Americans, the term can also be applied to the whirlwind of activities and events that annually celebrate Greek Independence. From parades and ceremonies to dinners and even advocacy events the Greek American community is extremely visible in our communities during March. The AHEPA family’s membership of community leaders plays a large and integral role in all of these events. “March Madness” applies not just to Supreme President Karacostas shares a moment with Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter.
