Special thanks to Scholarship chairman John Tsagaris and his committee members, Joanne Sackedis, DOP President Angie Janetakos, Anna Tripodis, Anna Arfaras, Thea Tsagaris, Steve Tsagaris, Paul Giovanis, PSVP Gus Stefanadis, Chapter VP John Tsacrios, Chapter President Gus Pantelides and incoming Chapter President, Alex Alexander. Three Ahepans received years of service pins (l-r): Gus Saravanos, 25 years; Gus Pantelides, 35 years; and George Tragos, 40 years. More than 200 persons attended. elite US Rangers, Specialist 4th Class. He retired from RCA with over 40 years of service. George was an active member of Saint Thomas Greek Orthodox Church, Cherry Hill, having served over twenty years on the Parish Council, many as an officer. Brother Horiates was a long-time member of the Pan-Icarian Brotherhood of America (Atheras, Chapter 12) having served as Chapter President and as a Supreme Lodge officer. He was an advisor to the Sons of Pericles.

James Plevritis Evzone Chapter 405, New Rochelle, N.Y.—Supreme President Nicholas Karacostas and Father Nicholas Anctil, president of the Archdiocesan Presbyters Council and distinguished chapter member, take a moment to pose before the bust of an earlier president during the White House ceremony honoring Greek Independence Day.

District 4

AHEPA Chapter 515, Radnor, Pa.— Chapter 515 President Cary Mossaidis assisted at the re-commemoration of the Pontian Genocide Memorial which was unveiled on the grounds of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, Upper Darby, Pa., May 22, 2011. Brothers came in support of the project and were pleased to see the entire church community attend the memorial service. Father Nektarios officiated. The Memorial is the only one dedicated to the memory of Black Sea Greeks in the United States.

AHEPA Chapter 72, Trenton, N.J.—The chapter mourns the passing of Brother Louis Sarris, who passed away April 14, 2011. He was 91. Brother Sarris served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a devoted lifetime member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Hamilton Township, where he also was the cantor. He also belonged to St. Thomas Greek Orthodox Church, Cherry Hill. Ramapo Chapter 453, Toms River, N.J.— The chapter hosted another successful cigar fundraiser, hosting more than 500 persons for the event held May 11, 2011. Proceeds raised benefit several significant projects of the chapter’s Educational and Facilities Programs, which include scholarships as well as facility grants for the school and gymnasium at St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Wyckoff, N.J. These programs provide valuable community services for athletic and educational activities in the Wyckoff and Bergen County areas, utilizing the facilities at St Nicholas. Since this annual event’s inception eight years ago more than $500,000 has been raised by the chapter.

AHEPA Chapter 98, New Haven, Conn.— A proud 60-year annual tradition continued as the chapter hosted its Easter Egg Hunt at St. Barbara Greek Orthodox Church, Orange, Conn., on Palm Sunday.

AHEPA Chapter 36, Cleveland, Ohio— Brother George Veras received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor on May 7, 2011. More than 200 Americans were honored along with Veras, including Entertainer/Philanthropist Jerry Lewis, Pro Football Hall of Famer Don Shula. For the first time in history, the son
