AHEPA Mother Lodge Chapter 1, Atlanta—The chapter’s Educational Foundation, celebrated its 25th anniversary on June 5, 2011. More than 250 persons attended an event at which scholarships were presented to 51 students from the greater Atlanta area totaling more than $50,000. Since 1986 over $460,000 in scholarship money has been gifted to students to help them with their college education. Tom Kantsios, chairman, Chapter 1 Educational Foundation, provided opening remarks. He was recognized for his 25 years of service as chairman of the foundation. Also recognized were George Skoufis, Dr. George Patterson, Dr. Pandeli Durbetaki, and William Marianes for their 25 years of service on the board. In addition, Board Member Dr. Victor Polizos spoke about the 15th Anniversary of the TRIBUTE statue project which was AHEPA’s gift to the city of Atlanta on the occasion of the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games. Sponsored by Hellenes and Philhellenes from around the world, the statue resides in Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta.
District 1
District 4
District 4—New District Lodge Officers were elected at the District Convention in Philadelphia. They are: Governor John H. Kambouroglou, Lt. Gov. Photios Skolikas, Secretary Christian Filipos, Treasurer Constantine Avgerinos, Marshal Demetrios Costantinidis, Warden Alex Guminski, and Athletic Director Peter Mossaidis. Supreme President Nicholas A. Karacostas, Supreme Vice President Dr. John Grossomanides, Supreme Treasurer Col. Nicholas P. Vamvakias, Supreme Governors Andrew Zachariades, Dr. Pete Nikolas, and Canadian President Nicholas Aroutzidis were on-hand to swear-in the new officers. AHEPA Chapter 484, Chester County, Pa.—The chapter awarded three scholarships to worthy students at its awards dinner meeting on June 8, 2011 held at DeStarr’s Restaurant, West Chester, Pa. These awards are given to students entering college or continuing in college or other post-secondary educational institutions. The recipients this year were, Athena Petropoulos ($1,000), Stephanie Fisher ($1,000) and Amalia Petropoulos ($1000). Pictured are scholarship recipient Amalia Petropoulos, St. Joseph’s University, and Peter Skiadas, Scholarship Committee chairman. At the same meeting the new officers of the chapter for 2011-2012 were installed. They were: Panagiotis Stathis, president; Dr. Peter Patukas, vice president, Ted Skiadas, treasurer, Peter Skiadas, secretary, and Peter Missiras, chaplain. The local chapter participates in several local fundraising events including the annual Strawberry Festival at the Brandywine Hospital grounds in Coatesville, Pa.
Districts 1 and 2
Twenty-eight golfers from Districts 1 and 2 participated in the joint District Convention Golf Tournament at the beautiful Queen’s Harbour Golf & Yacht Club in Jacksonville. Scramble format tournament winners with a score of 59 were: District 1 Governor Ted Kipreos, Jim Gilmer and Alec Alexander. Runner-up team with a score of 60 was: District 1 Lt. Governor Peter Scarmoutsos, Past Supreme President Ike Gulas, Constantine Zouboukos and Peter Triantos. Congratulations to Jacksonville AHEPA Chapter 6 Golf Tournament Chairman Anthony Megas and his committee for coordinating this excellent event.
AHEPA Monroe Chapter 75, New Brunswick, N.J.—Brother Manny Manioudakis was inducted into the New Brunswick High School Hall of Distinguished Alumni on June 10, 2011. More than 400 people attended the affair that was held at The Pines Manor, Edison, N.J. Brother Manny has been a member
