AHEPA Chapter 140, Albany, N.Y.—The chapter and St. Sophia Greek School teachers Mrs. Kiki Maglaras and Mrs. Eleni Efstathiadis wish to extend their sincere congratulations to Zoe Bousbouras, a member of Maids of Athena Chapter Sophia 48, who scored a perfect 100 percent on the Comprehensive Examination in Modern Greek. His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America presented Zoe with the Three Hierarchs Award of Excellence, January 28, 2012 at the Holy Trinity Cathedral Center in New York City. Also recently, the chapter sponsored and supported a lecture and book signing by Greek author Foti Jean-Pierre Fotiu, of his new book titled “Constantinople: The Beautiful City and Destruction of its Greek, Armenian and Jewish Communities.” More than 180 individuals from the St. Sophia Community and the Albany region attended.

Athens Chapter 24, Boston—Brother Alex Geourntas was re-elected by the Boston City Council to a third term as Assistant City Clerk for the City of Boston. Mayor Menino offered the oath of office to Alex as his wife, Nancy looked on during the ceremony. Alex has served as Assistant City Clerk since 2005 and he is the highest ranking Greek American in city government. Alex has been an active member of AHEPA for many years serving as an officer at the chapter, district and national levels most recently serving as Supreme Governor of Region 4 (2009-10). Brother Geourntas currently serves as a member of the AHEPA Educational Foundation. AHEPA Chapter 195, Ann Arbor, Mich.— The chapter donated $2,000 to the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital earmarked for the patients’ summer camp in December. It also welcomed Brother Marios Papaefthymiou, who became the chapter’s newest member in February. And on March 18, parishioners of St Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, Ann Arbor and its Greek School, and community members convened at the Statue of Ypsilanti, Ypsilanti, Mich., for an AHEPA-sponsored commemoration of Greek Independence Day. District 10 Governor and Chapter 195 President Costas Boutsikakis kickedoff the ceremony and Father Nick Kotsis gave the blessing. Once again, Brother Nick Stamos shared his inspiring words with all in attendance.
