Ahepa Family CHAPTER News District 1 Mother Lodge District 1 At the AHEPA District 1 Mid-Winter Conference, Greenville, S.C., won the Charlie Theodore Memorial Basketball Tournament, held March 1-3, 2013. District 2 Citrus District 2 Members from across the AHEPA family of Citrus District 2, Florida, led by Supreme Governor Dalton Respass and District 2 Governor Stefanos Leonidas Photiades, marched in the Tarpon Springs Greek Independence Day Parade. In addition to District Lodge officers, brothers from Chapters 6, Jacksonville; 15, St. Petersburg; and 410, Daytona Beach; as well as several past national and district officers, participated. Space Coast Chapter 401, Melbourne, Fla.— The chapter awarded five scholarships of $800 each to: George Saad, junior, University of Central Florida; Alyssa Karas, senior, University of Miami; Peter Karas, sophomore, Harvard University; Constantine Stathis, freshman, University of North Florida; and Tommy Panouses, freshman, Brevard Community College. District 4 William Penn Chapter 61, Reading, Pa. A dozen new members were initiated. During the past year, the chapter has hosted two Membership Roundup Campaigns in extending fellowship and service as members of the AHEPA chapter at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Reading, Pa. A total of 31 new members were initiated and/or reinstated during two mass initiation ceremonies on March 18, 2012 and February 21, 2013. This initiative brings the chapter roster to 94 active members. Chapter President Dr. George J. Giovanis presided over the most recent initiation ceremony with the assistance of Gust Kraras, Past District 5 governor, who has helped revitalize the Reading chapter over the past four years. The newly initiated members at the February 21, 2013, ceremony are: Yianni Barakos, Mark Chaknos, Chris Fecera, Jarett Fernez, John Frangakis, Nick S. Karetas, Nick Lambros, Stephen Mavreles, Richard Panagacos, Jeremy Reeser, Brian Szczawinski and Chris Zaffary. The chapter also reinstated Harry Pappas. District 4 Lehigh Chapter 60, Allentown, Pa. The chapter held its annual Greek Independence flag-raising ceremony at Allentown City Plaza on Saturday, March 23, 2013. The brothers were honored to have the Mayor of Corfu, Greece, Ioannis Trepeklis, who was visiting Allentown after ratifying an agreement to be a Sister City with Bethlehem, Pa. Pennsylvania State Representative Ryan Mackenzie and the mayor of Allentown Ed Pawlowski presented proclamations for Greek Independence Day. The chapter presented Mayor Trepeklis with an honorary membership pin. Brother Manny Tatalias spoke about the history of Greek Independence and provided refreshments afterwards, which included his homemade baklava. Summer 2013 · The AhepAn | 27
