Jasmin Sethi
In " Safe and Sound " (Page 35), Jasmin Sethi,
Morningstar's associate director of policy
research, provides a road map to guaranteedincome
annuities. Sethi says that now is
a particularly good time to write about annuities:
" Lower interest rates and volatile markets make it
complicated to plan for retirement income.
Meanwhile, the Secure Act made it easier to have
annuities in 401(k)s, and the passage
of Secure 2.0 would increase the appeal. "
Sethi, who has a J.D. and a Ph.D. in economics
from Harvard, runs Sethi Clarity Advisers,
a boutique regulatory consulting firm. Her
experience includes academia, as an adjunct
professor at Georgetown University Law
Center, and government, as a special counsel at
the SEC's Division of Trading and Markets.
She prefers the corporate world, however.
" You can turn data into a business use, capitalize
on it, " she says. " It's very practical, and
you feel like you are really doing something. "
For Morningstar, Sethi advises on areas ranging
from public policy advocacy, sustainability research,
products aligned with Regulation Best Interest,
managed portfolios, and annuities. Her
approach dovetails with Morningstar's mission.
" I love thinking from the angle of what's good
for the investor, " she says.

planning for retirement. " Daily objects and
furniture that are commonly seen in a cozy and

barely maintains balance, " she says, " suggesting
the feeling of insecurity without guaranteed
