MAKING A DIFFERENCE Luck of the Cards For Kevin Hinton, it was a very big deal. And come next summer, he will be bluffing with the big guns at the 2011 World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas. The CEO of event firm hinton+grusich won a US$10,000 seat to the tourney during The Big Deal, a fundraiser for the MPI Foundation, sponsored by Las Vegas Meetings by Harrah’s Entertainment, Hilton Worldwide and Encore Productions. The 2010 World Education Congress featured the event’s debut, which was free to WEC attendees and resulted from a three-year partnership with the sponsors. There, Hinton took out John Chen of Playtime Inc. during the last hand, as 1,000 of his peers looked on. The tournament played out in the Vancouver Convention Centre’s West Building, where attendees extended their opening evening fun with gaming tables, prizes, food, entertainment and celebrity poker player appearances. The second Big Deal will be held at WEC 2011 in Orlando. Prior to entering the hotel business, Hinton volunteered for the Peace Corps and served for two years in Mali. He also studied finance and German at Marquette University. In March 2005, Hinton earned an executive MBA from the University of Chicago. Hinton began his industry career with Hilton Hotels in 1997. He is the second son of company founder Dave Hinton. In addition to a long industry career, Hinton has a history of volunteer service. He currently holds a three-year term on MPI’s board of directors and previously served as the MPI Chicago Area Chapter president. The MPI Foundation thanks the following organizations and individuals for their generous support.
