Shawna Suckow, CMP, had no intention of connecting 2,000 of her “closest friends” in an international network of unprecedented proportion; a LinkedIn.com webinar suggested users create interest groups, and she did. But her fledgling community had intentions of its own.

“I was completely oblivious to the opportunity at hand,” she says. Suckow started the Senior Planners Industry Network (SPIN) in October 2008 as a way for the industry’s most experienced professionals to interact and exchange ideas. The only rule: No suppliers. The think tank was designed as neutral territory, where experienced planners could discuss issues in a friendly (and decidedly vendor-free) environment.
