The back-panel connections are what really put the DiDock in the “pro” category. From left to right the DiDock includes a power input, iPod charge switch, headphone output, and stereo XLR outputs with individual ground lift switches (!). If you’ve ever tried to connect an iPod or MP3 player to pro audio equipment you’ll definitely appreciate the DiDock. The balanced, transformer-isolated XLR connections and ground lift switches virtually guarantee a buzz-free connection, and the headphone output is great for checking a playlist before sending it to the main mix, a feature DJs will love.

The DiDock also performs the unglamorous job of boosting the volume to a professional +4 dB level. This feature alone puts the DiDock in the “must have” list of tools. The DiDock is far from sexy. There are no flashing lights, no moving meters and it definitely won’t win you a Grammy. However, it fills a huge need and live-sound mixers and DJs will get a lot of mileage out of this little device. CT-3 Cable testers are the unsung heroes of an engineer’s toolbox. Cables and connectors undoubtedly fail at the most inopportune times and a reliable cable tester can save the day. Most cable testers are fairly simple and include basic connections for XLR, 1/4" and RCA connectors. The SM Pro Audio CT-3 is simple to use, but not simple on features. Using the CT-3 is straightforward and relies on two sets of lights and beeps to verify both continuity and pin order. Although the manual is a little light on the explanation, the CT3 is fairly easy to use once you plug it in and watch the lights go about their business. The test tone is loud enough to be easily heard and can be adjusted with a built-in level knob. The build quality is rugged and feels like it’s designed to withstand quite a bit of hard use. With a connection set as robust as the CT-3’s, and at a street price of $129.99, it’s hard to see why you wouldn’t want this tester in your toolbox.
