PreSonus (presonus.com): The Studio 1810 and Studio 1824
($399.95/$499.95) are new USB audio/MIDI interfaces
offering XMAX Class A mic preamps, two Hi-Z instrument inputs,
balanced main outs and line outs, MIDI I/O, and coaxial S/PDIF
I/O. The Studio 1810 features four mic/line inputs, four TRS line
inputs, and ADAT optical input, plus six balanced line outputs; the
Studio 1824 features eight ZLR/TRS mic/line inputs, ten balanced
outputs, ADAT optical I/O, and BNC word clock out. Also new:
the FaderPort 16 control surface ($999.95).
Prism Sound (prismsound.com) has introduced Verifile as a free
addition to the firmware and software of its USB interfaces such as
the Titan, Atlas, and Lyra. Verifile embeds inaudible metadata in
audio files that can quickly determine if there has been any alteration
or corruption to recorded data after it leaves the A/D converter,
whether upon recording or during digital transfers to other computers.
Radial Engineering (radialeng.com): The KL-8 is a rackmount
mixer for stage and studio keyboard rigs. It offers four mono/stereo
inputs, stereo Aux send and receive, XLR and TRS outputs for PA
and powered stage monitors, MIDI, and dual USB interfaces with
24/192 conversion for redundant laptop systems. Also new: the
Catapult Mini TX and Catapult Mini RX, which convert any CAT 5 cable
into an all-analog 4-channel snake, greatly simplifying mic cable runs.
Retro Instruments (retroinstruments.com): The Retro Revolver
($2995) is a 2-channel all-tube compressor that's based on a
British-modified Altec 436. It offers transformer-balanced I/O,
stereo linking, a Dual Threshold control for ratio and amp saturation, and more.
RME (rme-audio.com): The ADI-2 DAC ($999) is a 2-channel
home-studio/Hi-Fi D/A converter spun off from RME's powerful
ADI-2 Pro ($1999). It's a class compliant USB 2.0 interface with
unbalanced RCA and balanced XLR outputs, a 1/4" headphone
output, a minijack ultra-low-noise/low-impedance output for
in-ear monitors, and optical and coaxial S/PDIF digital inputs. It
supports sample rates up to 768 kHz and DSD and Direct DSD
playback up to 11.2 MHz and comes with a programmable
wireless remote. Look for a review in a forthcoming issue.
Roland (roland.com): The R-07 ($229.99) is a compact and rugged high-resolution field recorder with simultaneous microSD-based
recording of WAV up to 24/96 and MP3 up to 320 kbps. With a

clear backlit graphic LCD and one-touch Scene function for easy setup,
it also includes Bluetooth remote control from smartphones and wearables, mic and aux inputs, and battery or USB bus power operation.
Also new: software versions of Roland's famous TR-808 and TR-909
drum machines, now available in the Roland Cloud.
Samson (samsontech.com): The G-Track Pro ($149.99) is an affordable high-quality USB recording and playback system with 24-bit/96 kHz
support. It includes a dual-diaphragm 1" condenser mic, as well as a 1/4"
instrument input with a switch to record its signal mixed with (for streaming)
or separate from (for recording) the mic's signal. Mic and Instrument levels
can be adjusted on the mic itself, and there's a headphone output with
volume control and a Mute button as well. Look for a review soon.
Shure announced a new recording contest called Off The Beaten Track,
with a grand prize of a recording session at Capitol Studios in Hollywood
with Al Schmitt and many other Shure gear prizes as well. Applications
are being accepted until March 22 at off-the-beaten-track.shure.com.
Slate (stevenslatedrums.com, slatedigital.com): Steven Slate Drums
5 (price TBA, coming in Spring) is the newest edition of the famed
drum sample library, with a completely redesigned user interface, a
new drum playback algorithm, 50 new instruments in the library, a
new routing/mapping system, and more. Also new: Audified U73b, a
vari-mu tube limiter module for Virtual Mix Rack created by Audified.
Sonnox (sonnox.com): VoxDoubler ($99) is the first release in Sonnox's
new Toolbox range. It consists of two plug-ins, Thicken and Widen, which
are designed to provide musical and convincing results from existing
tracks without retracking or manual editing. Look for reviews soon.
SPL (spl.info, dist. by Audio Plus Services, audioplusservices.com):
introduced a new line of mastering rack gear, including the DMC
stereo mastering console ($6499), MC16 16-channel analog monitor
controller ($5999), and an improved PASSEQ passive EQ ($5999).
All three use SPL's 120VDC audio rail design for better headroom.
