EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES
CPE Activities Promote Discussion on Current Regulatory Topics
NABP held the following continuing pharmacy education (CPE) activities during the virtual 117th
Annual Meeting, providing attendees with
the opportunity to earn Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education-accredited CPE credit. These knowledge-based activities, developed
specifically for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, addressed current issues affecting the regulation of pharmacy practice and were
presented by leading subject matter experts.
Access Is Crucial for Patients With Opioid
Use Disorder: Expanding Pharmacists'
Role in MAT
Attendees learned how pharmacists on the front lines can
provide medication-assisted treatment (MAT) through
collaborative practice and emergency use authorization to
help patients suffering from opioid use disorder (OUD)
and address the opioid epidemic. Michelle Geier, PharmD,
BCPP, APh, psychiatric clinical pharmacist supervisor for
the San Francisco Department of Public Health, discussed
expanding access to MAT for patients with OUD and the
current regulatory requirements and possible challenges to
improve access. Attendees also had the unique opportunity

(D-NY). Tonko provided attendees with an overview of
the Mainstreaming Addiction Treatment Act, which he
co-sponsored, and answered several questions raised by meeting participants. NABP
President Timothy D. Fensky, RPh, DPh, FACA, served as moderator for this session.
Shared Discussion Topics
NABP Executive Committee members Nicole L.
Chopski, PharmD, BCGP, ANP, and Shane R.

discussion on regulatory topics submitted by
attendees via survey prior to the meeting. Topics
discussed were pharmacist working conditions,
white bagging, multistate licensure, pharmacy
technician scope of practice, continuing
education, and Food and Drug Administration's
Compounding Memorandum of Understanding.
This activity allowed participants to share insights
and knowledge to develop solutions to the
challenges that boards of pharmacy face.
