beyond, with the opportunity to come to
LAU. We are a not-for-profit institution
and therefore we must make sure that the
students continue to have that opportunity
for education. But despite all of that, as
fundamentally difficult as it is, our enrollment continues to increase. We have 8,500
students across our campuses. This is
attractive to families because they feel that
their sons and daughters will be safe and
secure at LAU and will receive an education that will prepare them for the future-
not only to work in Lebanon but also to
have the world as their arena of operation.

that students-young men and women-
are given the opportunity to be innovative
in the classroom and beyond, because in
order to stay ahead of the curve one really
needs to be innovative, to think outside the
box, in such a competitive, fast-moving,
and changing world. I personally think
that the traditional ways of education are
bygone. I am not talking about ethics and
integrity, which remain absolutely essential, but I am talking about the way we do
things and teach our students, the way we
provide them the opportunity to prepare
themselves for tomorrow.

IE: What do you consider to be one
of the most important characteristics
for young people to have in order to
succeed in today's globalized world?
JABBRA: What is so important for the
twenty-first century is a spirit of innovation, and I think it's very, very important

IE: Where do you hope to see LAU
headed in the future?
JABBRA: I am working very hard with
my colleagues to make sure that this
institution we affectionately call LAU
continues to be a beacon of hope for the
youth of the region, the youth of Lebanon,

and beyond. We want to make sure that it
continues to provide the financial aid and
scholarships that are necessary in order
for youth to have the opportunity to come
to this great institution for their education.
Without education, people won't be able
to function or to have successful careers in
the twenty-first century. There is so much
change in society and in the world-globally speaking, regionally speaking, and
locally speaking-and any institution that
is worth a grain of salt must realize that
we are part of society and we need to help
meet its challenges. We hold this ideal
very close and work every minute of every
day, against all odds, to achieve what we
believe is a most noble mission to give
each and every student an actual chance
for a great future. n
