student sourcing. The very shifts that are unsettling the
international landscape are raising the profile of U.S.
higher education opportunities-both on their own
campuses and around the world.
"In many ways, international education is in an ideal
place," says Gozik. "There has never been a time when
more institutions of higher education have focused on
international education as a key strategic goal. In the U.S.
and around the world, there is a drive to build up efforts
around study abroad, the recruitment and exchange of
international students and faculty, and the growth of
cross-national research projects, among other initiatives.
University leaders have come to recognize that it is not
possible to be a world-class institution without also being
a global one." n
