Then ACI-NA President David Plavin at the 1999 conference in Las Vegas. rom New Orleans to Toronto, Hawaii to Salt Lake, Houston to Montreal and everywhere in between, ACI-NA’s Annual Conference and Exhibition has been located in major cities across North America over the past 20 years. In October 1991, the Airport Operators Council International 44th Annual Conference and the Airports Association Council International’s First World Assembly combined, creating Airports Association Council International, which was later shortened to Airports Council International about a year later. The joining of these two organizations and their conferences in New Orleans is considered the first ACI-NA Annual Conference. ACI was established in order to represent a unified voice of airports on aviation issues on a global scale, providing the industry perspective to the International Civil Aviation Organization. It is a credible and consistent representation of airports for all aviation-related issues, from security to economics. Once a year, airports send representatives to global, national, and regional airport conferences to discuss the most critical issues related to aviation. “The ACI-NA Annual Conference provides an opportunity for all sectors of the North American airport and aviation industry to come together in one place to network, share valuable information, and hear the latest updates from leaders and experts. This is the one event where attendees are guaranteed to receive valuable information via our varied education sessions, as well as to see the latest innovative products and services on our trade show floor,” said Deirdre Clemmons, vice president, meetings, convention and education. Over the last 20 years, ACI-NA’s Annual Conference has brought together officials from all aspects of the industry. “It is an opportunity for a full range of airport people to get together from specialists to the CEO and everyone in between. That’s what makes the Annual Conference special,” said former ACI-NA President, David Plavin. Many believe that in the transition time between creating ACI from AOCI, little changed in terms of the conference format, besides the name.
