Great Clips Honors two AACS members State College of Beauty Culture Joins Fight Against Breast Cancer Beauty Changes Lives Featured on Rhoda Olson, CEO and Ray Barton, president of Great Clips, Inc. presented the Industry Leader Award, which is given to an outstanding leader in the cosmetology industry who has impacted Great Clips, to John Halal of Honor Beauty College. Halal, who also serves as the current president of AACS, was the third recipient of this prestigious award. Great Clips, Inc. has selected Joseph Nash, President of Vogue School of Beauty Culture to receive the company’s Partners in Education Award—an award that recognizes a person or institution that has made a significant impact in educational opportunities for those who choose to enter the cosmetology field. Kohler Academy Contest Winners Meet Vidal Sassoon Students at State College of Beauty Culture in Wausua, Wis. raised $2,000 in October for their “Cutting for a Cure” campaign, benefitting Susan G. Komen for the Cure®. The students held a raffle, paid to wear jeans and pink clothing and sold pink bracelets. Along with their efforts, the school held a cut-a-thon on Oct. 29 with all proceeds donated to the cause. On the same day, the school cut hair for Locks for Love to be used in the creation of hairpieces for financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss. Good Morning Arizona The Beauty Changes Lives fashion show was held at the Orpheum Theater in Phoenix during the AACS Annual Convention. What Not to Wear’s Ted Gibson teamed up with AACS for the event, appearing on Good Morning Arizona along with cosmetology students Kathy Cook and Jordan Cook. Kathy and her daughter, Jordan, are both students at the Kohler Academy in Arizona. Regency Beauty Institute Students Attend INsalon 2009 Guys Academy Hair, Skin and Nails Holds Student Fashion Show Heather Davis, Lee Silver, Vidal Sassoon, Jill Kohler and Burt Kohler. Kohler Academy Cosmetology students Heather Davis and Lee Silver had lunch with legendary hairstylist Vidal Sassoon recently. Davis and Silver, along with Kohler Academy Founders Jill and Burt Kohler, traveled to Beverly Hills to spend the afternoon with the beauty industry icon famous for re-inventing the bob haircut. The students were chosen to meet the famous stylist after winning the academy’s Bob Cut contest in September. More than 35 cosmetology students participated in the event. The bob haircuts, featured on both live models and mannequins, were judged by Kohler educators and staff based| B EA U TYLIN K | T H E 2 0 1 0 ST UDE NT Nearly 100 of Regency Beauty Institute’s top students from around the country recently reaped the rewards of being exceptional—an all-expense-paid trip to St. Paul to attend INsalon 2009. Regency’s Student Training and Rewards (STAR) Program® recognizes student achievement in critical areas such as service and retail, with two opportunities per year to earn a rewards trip to an industry event. The latest group of STAR® students had the opportunity to live it up while learning. They stayed Guys Academy Hair, Skin and Nails in Shreveport, La. recently held an erathemed student fashion show. Student teams research the hair, fashion and events of their chosen decade, which ranged from the ’20s to the ’50s. A storyboard helped the students expand on their chosen era. The show provided students a challenge and opportunity to showcase their creativity.
