Q | message from the a a cs pres ide nt an d cea ch air | R POSTER CHILDREN FOR PERSEVER ANCE C Congratulations! You made it through an awful winter! You made it through 13.5 new integrity provisions from the Department of Education. You came out in record numbers to the Spring Management Conference in Las Vegas to learn how to implement those new regulations! You continue to wait for the dreaded final regulations on Gainful Employment... you are the poster children for perseverance! Our magazine is dedicated to the subject of perseverance and there can be no better examples than your schools, the classrooms and the students that populate them. Your association has been hard at work to help you navigate the changing landscape. The Board of Directors has adopted two strategic initiatives this year: communication and a strategic review of the AACS office to ensure we are giving our great staff the resources they need to serve our membership best. We have grown to almost 1,100 schools representing 150,000 students and recognize the importance of communication on all levels. We will be looking at the effectiveness of all our communications models. You may have received some surveys asking questions on these subjects. We hope you will take a few minutes to respond to our requests for more information. Due to a recent bylaws change we will now have two voting board of director seats for associate members. Be sure to read about this new opportunity on page 34. They will be elected by their peers during the 2011 Annual Convention. In addition a new Tactical Team has been formed for associate members. I hope to see you in Phoenix at the fabulous Westin Kierland Resort for the CEA Annual Convention. The urgency has never been greater to motivate and train our instructors to a new level of excellence! See you there! CHRISTINE GORDON AACS President ...AS EDUCATORS IT IS IMPORTANT TO ALWAYS BE THE LEADER IN PERSEVER ANCE AND PASSION FOR OUR STUDENTS... PATHS OF PASSION W 8 | B EA U TYLIN K | P E RSE VE RE | 2 0 1 1 What does this issue of BeautyLink and this year’s CEA Annual Convention have in common? “Perseverance” and “Passion” are the correct answers. In this issue of BeautyLink it is all about perseverance; exactly what we need when we are facing obstacles and/or going through change. Sometimes the passion we have for our industry helps us maintain steady perseverance in spite of difficulties. And as educators it is important to always be the leader in perseverance and passion for our students; in the classroom and in the student salon area. When I am facing challenges I like to “keep the end in mind,” and in doing this I am able to lead with passion. Keeping the end in mind also allows me to persevere through some of the most challenging times. In this issue of BeautyLink you will find great ideas, techniques and expert advice that will assist you in maintaining grace and determination to the end, leading you to salvation… explaining your perseverance and passion. This CEA Convention is July 15–18 at the Westin Kierland Resort in Scottsdale, Arizona. The convention consists of four “paths of passion”: Plan your passion, Personalize your passion, Practice your passion and Prompt your passion. The CEA committee has planned a variety of classes that will ignite your passion and make you want to persevere through Monday, with our special presentation from Geno Stampora. We have new expert speakers this year to include: Sam Parker, author of “212: The Extra Degree,” Dr. Mark Lees, American Crew Menswork class, Debra Miller with SureTint Technologies, and many more. And, of course, we have some of our all-time favorites; Pivot Point International, Milady, Dr. Carl Bridges and more. It is not too late to register, go online today or give us a call. We hope to see you all there! Live, love and learn, KIM MCINTOSH CEA Chair
