PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE I MESSAGE DU PRÉSIDENT Listening By/par Jim Murphy, AMP À l’écoute ONE OF MY KEY roles is to consult with and listen to members. This is the best way to learn about new products and industry trends, as well as fi nding out what association services our members value most. It’s also a great way of flagging areas where improvement is needed. Our regional and national events provide opportunities to talk with members. I also meet regularly with individual members and industry leaders to gain insight into the issues of the day. During these discussions we examine trends and discuss the direction of the mortgage industry. Members want CAAMP to continue building its role as the voice and face of the mortgage industry We consider challenges and opportunities. We also receive e-mails from members in response to our monthly Chairman’s Update message and other e-mail notices CAAMP forwards on a regular basis. The recent federal changes to the financial guarantee for mortgage insurers are a good example how we listen to members. CAAMP forwarded the government information to members and then followed up with an e-mail seeking feedback and input. We received over 50 e-mails about the government proposal in one day and several phone calls. As you would expect from a large organization like CAAMP, with its diversified membership, views are not always uniform. That is why it’s so important to find out the common themes. They help CAAMP’s management team to do a better job. Based on the feedback we’ve received, here are some of these key trends: • The real estate and mortgage markets are slowing. This is true across the country and not just in central Canada; L’UN DE MES principaux rôles est de consulter les membres.
