I A C P F O U N D A T I O N Fourth Annual Foundation Fundraiser Flies High in Orlando By Michael J. Carroll, Chief of Police, West Goshen Township Police Department, West Goshen, Pennsylvania; Immediate Past President, IACP; Chair, IACP Foundation ropical swaths of green and blue wove their way through an elegant white backdrop, setting the tone for the IACP Foundation’s Fourth Annual Fundraising Gala, held on Saturday, October 23, 2010, in Orlando, Florida. Almost 300 guests joined the Foundation Board and IACP leadership at this sparkling event, held every year in conjunction with the annual IACP conference. During my remarks at the dinner event, I celebrated the success of fundraising efforts, saying, “I am proud to tell you that this year’s gala, despite the challenging economic environment— and for the fourth time in as many years, has generated over $100,000 in ticket and table sales. Tonight, we have raised exactly $120,000 for the programs and services of the Foundation. As a matter of fact, we stood at $119,800 until four days ago when the purchase of one individual ticket allowed us to reach the $120,000 mark. You see, every contribution does matter!” In addition to the gala dinner, the Foundation raised funds through a series of silent auctions, earning $10,000 from the purchase of auction memorabilia as well as almost $2,000 as a result of the second annual commemorative firearm auction, underwritten by Sig Sauer. Dinner guests kicked off the evening enjoying an exceptional hosted reception, where they were able to network and mingle with friends, law enforcement colleagues, and committed corporate partners. Many of the corporate groups and several of the individual guests have been part of the Foundation gala since the inaugural event in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 2007. Four-year supporter Chief Bernadette DiPino of the Ocean City, Maryland, Police Department noted, “This is one of the most important and compelling events anyone can attend during the annual conference. It is both an energizing and rewarding way to support the Foundation, and you simply can’t beat the four-star atmosphere that is created here.” Additionally, Stephen Blauer of Blauer Manufacturing added, “We felt like after all the years of deriving benefit from law enforcement, we wanted to give something back. We got involved personally, as a family, as a way to support the spouses and kids of officers fallen or permanently disabled in the line of duty.” The Foundation was pleased to welcome a special presentation during the dinner program from Craig Floyd, Chairman and CEO of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF). Floyd is not only the fund’s chairman, but also a champion of law enforcement, and, during the evening’s remarks, he was able to share many of the accomplishments of the NLEOMF including its recent groundbreaking of a National Law Enforcement Museum in Washington, D.C. I closed the evening by issuing a challenge to the Foundation board members and to the group of patrons gathered together for the event, asking each to continue the tremendous momentum generated by the past years’ fundraising and programmatic efforts. In my closing comments, I said, “I ask you to think about the capacity you have as an individual or as a company who truly believes in the idea of corporate citizenship. Think about the power you have to make a difference in the future of professional policing simply by supporting the work of this outstanding Foundation.” The board and staff of the IACP Foundation sincerely thank every individual and organization that participated in the gala dinner event, with special thanks to the following dedicated partners: Dinner sponsor: Lockheed Martin Gold sponsors: LexisNexis, Motorola, Target, Verizon Wireless, Intrado Inc.
