offered a convenient and quiet location for attendees who needed a place to gather and discuss business before the opening of the Show Floor. For those looking to network in a more laid-back environment, ERA played host at a number of receptions throughout the three-day event. The New Member Reception on Monday seamlessly transitioned into the Opening Reception, where industry players had a chance to relax oceanside with colleagues they hadn’t seen since Las Vegas. On Tuesday, association members supportive of ERA’s legislative efforts in Washington, D.C., attended the Washington in Miami Networking Reception, a benefit for the E-Retail Political Action Committee. Nearly 30 attendees gathered to discuss the issues in the nation’s Capitol that are having the biggest impact on direct-to-consumer commerce, including counterfeiting and streamlined sales tax legislation. ERA Vice President for Government Affairs Bill McClellan addressed the group, saying, “One of the most important things for us is being able to help our members create a relationship with their representatives of Congress.” Finally, on Wednesday evening, all good things came to an end with the Closing Reception. As The Great Ideas Summit came to close, members gathered to discuss the show and looked forward to the 2012 ERA D2C Convention in the fall.

Education
Education at The Great Ideas Summit 2012 was flexible, convenient and targeted at the industry’s best and brightest. For the first time, attendees did not have to choose from education tracks as in the past because all sessions took place in the Learning Lounge right on the Show Floor. Whether they had a full hour for one of the Panel Discussions or just 12 minutes to spare for the Lightning Sessions, there really was something for everyone, as industry experts took the stage Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss a range of topics, including DRTV, retail and new technologies. Scott Richards of Dial800, Steven Feinberg of SF Global Sourcing, Jeff Campbell of SENSA Products and Creative Writer Rick Petry kicked off the sessions to a full audience with their session titled “10 Profound Marketing Secrets That Produce Big Profits.” The panel revealed the incremental secrets leading marketers use
