LOCKARD & WECHSLER CLEARANCE & PRICE INDEX

The Price and Clearance Indices are based on a 30-week moving average, dating back to the first week of January 2011. The Index is calculated by dividing current week clearance percentage or CPM over the most recent 52-week average clearance or CPM. Trends are now compared to those of 2010.

CLEARANCE INDEX
The strong end to the second quarter has stretched into the third quarter, especially in regards to 30-second clearance. Inventory remains available, especially on networks such as AMC, WGN, Spike and Hallmark. Clearance closely followed 2010 trends for this period, and there is nothing that indicates these trends will not continue. 60-second clearance was not as strong out of the gate, and levels are far below those of 2010. 120-second clearance was strong the first week of the quarter, but it quickly fell, reaching 2011 lows. Inventory for both spot TV and local cable is quickly tightening within markets as the political season starts to heat up. The rest of the year promises to be difficult with retail coming into the marketplace after the political season ends. Syndication and network opportunities remain scarce.
