Welcoming New Leadership

ERA’s Board of Directors has worked diligently to maintain value for our members by ensuring that member-provided resources: • Advance ERA’s role as the premier advocate and spokesperson in Washington, D.C., for the direct response industry; • Maintain a self-regulatory program that continues to be lauded by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission; • Create premium quality trade shows and venues that showcase the best of the industry and provide important business development opportunities; and • Offer platforms for high-quality professional development. The laser focus on member value by your Board of Directors has created historic results for ERA. Membership stands at a 20-year historic high point. ERA events continue to set records in all categories – number of attendees, number of exhibitors and number of sponsors. ERA’s overall fiscal health is its best since 2007. It has been a tough period for the industry – and thus, for your association. With the dedicated focus of the direct response industry’s leadership, ERA has weathered the challenge and is poised to consider additional ways to serve our membership.  Leading this new Board of Directors is incoming Chairman Harry Hill, president and CEO of Oak Lawn Marketing. Harry is a renowned industry thought leader with a wealth of sales and marketing expertise in the global marketplace. He has a long history of volunteerism with ERA, serving on various councils and committees and along with many on the Board, has been front and center in the transformation of ERA. Please join me in welcoming Harry to his new leadership role. And as part of this continuity of leadership, I would also like to congratulate Elliott Segal, senior vice president, international production at Guthy-Renker, who has been elected as the vice chairman of the Board. Elliott will succeed Harry as chairman one year from now. Of course, our incoming leadership will be attending the 2012 ERA D2C Convention, and I know they would be happy to meet you and hear your thoughts. Thank you, ERA members, for supporting ERA and most importantly, for supporting the great industry of which you are a part.

As many of you probably know, September marks the beginning of new governance for the association. Not only does it signal a change in leadership within the many councils and committees at ERA, but also among the Board of Directors. I would like to thank outgoing Chairman Steve Feinberg, CEO of SF Global Sourcing, for his support, encouragement, as well as his contributions to ERA during his tenure. I would also like to express appreciation for outgoing Board members: Scott Boilen of Allstar Marketing Group; Jon Congdon of Beachbody, LLC; Carey Grange of TEMPTU, Inc.; John Mills of John Mills Ltd./JML House; Tim Pearson of Time Life/Direct Holdings, Inc.; and Jeff Tuller of Savvier. Their hard work and dedication have made a significant impact on ERA’s future growth. I’m pleased to announce that six new members have joined the ERA Board of Directors: Brian S. Archibald, president of Provida Life Sciences, is a direct-to-consumer marketer with a strong economic bent and has spent years applying economic-based principles to direct marketing applications. Patty Booth, president of Thane Direct Canada, Inc., has been a member of ERA for more than 20 years, served as a member of the 2010 Nominating Committee and recently served as co-chair of the Canadian Council. Poonam Khubani, vice president of TeleBrands International, is an international marketing communications executive, who is a great believer in the transformative power and influence of electronic retailing. Gregory J. Sater, Esq., partner at Venable LLP, has been a steadfast supporter of and an active participant in the association for the past nine years. His law practice has focused entirely on the direct response industry. Katie Williams, co-founder and president of Ideal Living, has more than 25 years of multichannel marketing experience and is a pioneer of DRTV globally. In 2011, ERA honored Katie with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award. Dan Williams, managing director of The DuMont Project, brings extensive experience as a marketer and specifically as it applies to digital marketing and technology.
