Networking
While education and exhibits are an important part of the D2C experience, all of the attendees also come to network with contacts in the business. New this year, ERA introduced the Meet & Greet Lounge, a convenient and quiet location that was open Monday and Tuesday for people who needed a place to gather. Tables filled up quickly both days, and attendees remarked that it was nice to have an informal meeting space outside the Show Floor to meet with clients and colleagues. An always-popular spot for attendees to meet, unwind and grab a drink poolside was the ERA Circle Bar, which returned to Wynn this year. There also were a handful of networking receptions Wednesday evening, Sept. 14, hosted by the association’s councils and committees, where new members, old members and non-members were able to gather and discuss the state of the industry. The U.S. Hispanic Council, Radio Council and Asia Committee each hosted events that offered attendees a low-key opportunity to meet with prospective partners and clients. As the 2011 ERA D2C Convention came to a close, some of the members gathered throughout the Wynn shared what a productive and fun week it had been in Vegas and said they couldn’t wait until next year’s show.

Best in Direct Response Honored at 2011 ERA Moxie Awards
LAS VEGAS, Nev. – On Thursday evening, Sept. 15, the direct response industry’s best and brightest were honored at the 2011 ERA Moxie Awards Gala. SF Global Sourcing CEO and ERA Board Chairman Steven Feinberg emceed the awards, which celebrated a milestone 20th year. ERA President and CEO Julie Coons opened the glamorous evening. “I know some of you who have been in this industry just as long,” she said. “And like our awards, you’ve only gotten better with time.” More than 35 awards were handed out by representatives from event sponsors Guthy-Renker, Hawthorne Direct, Ideal Living, Oak Lawn Marketing and West Direct and celebrity presenters Erin Murphy, Taylor Baldwin, Andi Barness, Forbes Riley and Darla Haun.

Ideal Living President Katie Williams was given ERA’s Lifetime Achievement Award for her decades-long contribution to the industry. Many of her current and former employees, colleagues and friends expressed their gratitude for Williams’ professional and personal support. “I’ve tried to run my business and my life with a sense of service – service to my customers, to my partners, to my employees, to my service providers,” she said.
