H O M E A I D AT L A N TA HomeAid Atlanta Launches New Program Offering Hands-On Volunteer Opportunities HomeAid Atlanta recently launched a new program called HomeAid Care. Through this program, transitional housing facilities throughout metro Atlanta receive a “facelift” with cosmetic upgrades and minor repairs performed by volunteers. Since many Care Providers (homeless service agencies) operate on a limited budget, they often have little or no funds for much-needed repairs and upgrades to their transitional housing facilities. HomeAid Care addresses this critical issue. Through HomeAid Care, volunteers work on pre-arranged projects for one day, known as a HomeAid Care Day, performing tasks such as painting, cosmetic improvements, minor repairs, safety improvements, landscaping, equipment installation and wall repair. The program gives volunteers an opportunity to get involved by making a short-term, hands-on commitment that will have a lasting impact on local Care Providers and the homeless children, women and men they serve. Best of all, virtually anyone can get involved—families, individuals, school groups and clubs, church groups, businesses and professional organizations, just to name a few! For business owners, this program provides an excellent opportunity for team building and a great way to engage employees in giving back to the community. To get involved in a HomeAid Care Day, we encourage you to sign up to be a team captain or a team volunteer. As a team captain, you can be responsible for leading a project, from organizing a group of eight to 20 volunteers to gathering project-specific supplies and then completing the project with your volunteer team. A team captain is needed for each project and is vital to the project’s successful completion. As a team volunteer, your help is needed to assist with making minor repairs and cosmetic upgrades under the direction of a team captain. For 2008, there are two HomeAid Care Days remaining—one in August and one in December. This program offers a great opportunity to give back to the local community by lending a helping hand to those in need. With the generous gift of your time, you can make a difference! We invite you to join us! Please e-mail or call 678-775-1401 to sign up or for more information.
