O Feature Re-energize Your Employees without Breaking the Bank By Stephanie Andrews I n the wake of last year’s recession, HR professionals are being tasked with coming up with ideas for engaging employees, without dipping too far into newly ‘trimmed’ training budgets. With that in mind, here are a few suggestions on new perks that you can offer your employees, without having to clip coupons or raid the piggy bank. Let’s Get Physical Stress has certainly become a concern for employers during the recession, especially as many people cannot afford to spend much money on the extra-curricular activities that provide necessary relief from work pressures. Organizations need to think outside the box on how to offer low or no-cost incentives that promote the health and wellness of their employees. A little effort goes a long way in a tense economic climate. The Town of Banff (known for its pristine landscapes, endless opportunities for adventure, and high cost of living), however, has found opportunity to help employees better deal with stress and increase their quality of life, combating the price tag of outdoor activities by offering them an interest-free loan towards sporting equipment or memberships. The Active Living Purchase Program was a product of the Town’s Liaison committee, comprised of department representatives who come up with ways to continuously improve the working environment for employees.
