Network - Summer 2010 - (Page 7)

O Association News HRIA President’s Message O ver the past several months there has been much activity at HRIA and with summer almost here, I would like to take this opportunity to highlight the following key activities: 2010 Alberta HR Conference What a terrific crowd at April’s fifth annual Alberta HR Conference in Calgary! We welcomed hundreds of HR professionals from across the province who engaged in dynamic dialogue about the importance of higherlevel, big-picture thinking. Interactive discussions reinforced how HR ideas and strategies contribute to the bottom line of any organization. I was impressed by the array of outstanding keynote speakers, the trade show and networking opportunities. I want to thank everyone who participated and helped make this year’s event such a huge success! For a complete conference wrap-up please see page 10 which includes a photo gallery from the 2010 Alberta HR Conference. I’m thrilled to announce that planning is already underway for next year’s event. We will ensure HRIA continues to successfully serve its members while achieving the progressive goals of the Association. Elections and Annual General Meeting In May, the HRIA held its first ever virtual Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Edmonton. Those unable to attend participated virtually. The Board of Directors was pleased with the success of the 2010 AGM and with member participation and satisfaction levels this year. For the first time, HRIA also conducted an electronic election for the 2010/2011 Board of Directors. Elections were managed via a secured site with 128 encryption and single sign-on user authentication, making the voting process easier than ever. I am eager to be working with this enthusiastic new Board. As always, we will ensure HRIA continues to successfully serve its members while achieving the progressive goals of the Association. Our main priorities continue to be creating enhanced member services, making Collaboration Implementation a reality, establishing a governance model, enhancing the profession and the CHRP designation and building on strong provincial and national relations. In keeping with this year’s Conference theme – “Think Up! 2010” — it starts with an idea...a desire to be better, to aspire and not accept mediocrity, it’s the road less what happens when you pave the way. I hope the articles provided in this edition will help you become more strategic in your thought process to ensure your organization succeeds in today’s current economic climate. As always, I look forward to hearing from our members and welcome your ideas, comments or questions to I wish all of you a restful summer! Sincerely, Charlotte Bouchard, MBA, CHRP President NETWORK O Summer 2010 O 7
