O Association News HRIA Chair’s Message A s the new board chair, I am honoured and privileged to assume this position for the Human Resources Institute of Alberta. My first order of business is to thank Past Chair Charlotte Bouchard for the incredible work she gave us over the last two years as we successfully transitioned from an operating to a governance board, redrafted our bylaws, and implemented collaboration with the regional associations. I am excited to keep the momentum going and work diligently with the HRIA board in continuing to advance the interests and needs of our association. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated and helped make this year’s conference a success. I highly enjoyed the outstanding keynote speakers, the trade show and networking opportunities. Please see page 11 for conference highlights. In May, the HRIA held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Calgary. Last year we introduced a virtual AGM to our membership. Again for the 2011 AGM members had the opportunity to participate virtually and we are pleased with the increased level of participation each year. Following the AGM, we also recognized those individuals who obtained their CHRP designation in 2010 at a CHRP Celebration dinner. A CHRP Celebration was also held in Edmonton during the Celebrating Excellence Awards Dinner at conference this year. Congratulations again to all our new CHRPs! Your contribution to the profession is greatly appreciated. In keeping with the conference theme HR 360, this issue is dedicated to exploring different aspects of HR and helping you lead solutions and strategies that contribute to your organization’s success. I look forward to hearing from you and welcome your ideas, comments or questions to chair@hria.ca. I wish all of you a restful summer! Sincerely, by Todd den Engelsen This issue is dedicated to exploring different aspects of HR and helping you lead solutions and strategies that contribute to your organization’s success.
