ISTAT foundation Members have certainly risen to the occasion to answer the call. We have raised almost $200,000, and the AirLink team has organized and helped pay for numerous relief ﬂights to Port-au-Prince for passengers and cargo. A special thanks to Bob Brown, Warren Willets, Roland Moore, Terry McGaughan, Vito La Forgia, Nick Popovich, Jon Batchelor and Al Nigro for their outstanding efforts during this terriﬁc time of need. As 2009 came to a close, the ISTAT Foundation Scholarship Committee was hard at work ﬁnalizing the list of 2009 scholarship recipients. I am pleased to announce that the committee has awarded 18 scholarships in the amount of $130,000, reaching new students, universities and countries around the world. The following universities received ISTAT Foundation Scholarships in 2009: Anna University Chennai (India), Bad Honnef-Bonn (Germany), City University (UK), Civil Aviation University of China (China), Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (USA), Florida Institute of Technology (USA), Kent State University (USA), National University of Singapore (Singapore), Purdue University (USA), Stanford University (USA), TU Delft (The Netherlands), University of Dubuque (USA), University of Nebraska Omaha (USA), University of Virginia (USA) and Vaughn College (USA). Our Scholarship, Internship, Grants and Humanitarian Aid efforts mean continued costs. In the coming weeks, our Fundraising Committee will be making calls to donors to enlist your continued support. To help raise additional funds, we will also have a few special events at the upcoming annual conference so everyone can join in to help our cause and raise the necessary funds. I call your attention to a new section on the Foundation’s page at the Web site (www.ISTAT.org), which allows you to contribute individually. I would also like to note a special thanks to the ISTAT Board for their continued generous support to the Foundation. As a nonproﬁt association, ISTAT continues to provide the Foundation with annual grants based on the association’s performance. 2010 looks to be a year of change at the Foundation with the hiring of a consultant to help us evaluate our programs and ﬁnd ways to make them more powerful and build a stronger organization. During the process, headed up by Tom Heimsoth, we’ll take an in-depth look at what we do and deﬁne the underlying reasoning while determining how to make us more effective. We will look at each committee structure, charter and result. This will raise the bar on our current programs and help us focus on the value proposition each initiative contributes. For many of us, this past year has been unsettling in the marketplace—yet we have survived. The same has been true for our Foundation. While the economy has been in somewhat of a slump, I am pleased to say that, through the generosity of our Roundtable donors, the great work of our Foundation Trustees has continued to foster our Scholarship, Internship, Grants and Humanitarian Aid efforts. I’m excited about the opportunities ahead with our new ISTAT AirLink humanitarian aid initiative. In the coming months, we hope to have the program well underway and plan on a formal introduction to the membership.
